FL Around and Find Out: What Information Professionals Can Learn from Florida’s Empty Bookshelves
Discussion | Thursday, May 18, 2023 | 12:00pm – 1:00pm EST
Florida is perhaps the most visible example of what can happen when book challenges and topical dog whistles, like Critical Race Theory (CRT), progress to censorship on a macro scale. Using Florida and CRT as touchstones, this discussion aims to appraise the current situation and consider the following questions: How do we support each other? How do we preserve ourselves? How do we respond to people who often confront us with closed minds that are prepopulated with misinformation? This session is for information professionals seeking to process current events and build community so that this difficult work is more sustainable.
[This session will not be recorded.]
