Assistance with Implementing IIIF (International Image Interoperability Framework)

New York Art Resources Consortium

As more institutions become familiar with the promise of IIIF, interest in making images in digital repositories interoperable between systems is growing, but technical obstacles present challenges. The three host institutions of the New York Resources Consortium (NYARC): Brooklyn Museum, The Frick Collection, and The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) all see the great benefits of becoming compliant for IIIF, but are at different stages of implementation, ranging from an initial investigation into the requirements to partial conformance.  Even understanding what the requirements are can be difficult.  NYARC could benefit from the advice of an experienced technologist who has successfully implemented compliant systems.  He/she could assess the needs, make recommendations, participate in Github development, and even do some of the needed steps for full implementation. NYARC could then serve as a local resource to help other METRO members understand the benefits and challenges of IIIF compliance.

On May 10, 2016, MoMA is hosting “Access to the World Images: The Advantages of IIIF,” which would be an excellent opportunity for the Fellow to connect with developers in the IIIF community.
