NYPL is a knowledge institution designed primarily to serve the public. Its leadership deals with large-scale-complexities across tiers. This translates into an evident Strategy Gap. “A strategy gap refers to the gap between the current performance of an organization and its desired performance as expressed in its mission, objective, goals and the strategy for achieving them”. (Middle) management plays a crucial part in overcoming this gap. I see a need for this group to learn how tostay ahead of the game and proactively take part in organizational change processes. This will drastically improve service, performance and engagement. An innovative curriculum can be developed with this group through a co-creative process of action-learning and action- research.
Result: A world class and cross-institutional leadership development program for (emerging) high potential managers in libraries, which will drive: 1 -the continuous improvement of library services; 2 -advanced performance management solutions; and 3 – sustained engagement; throughout organizations.
